Rats are the perfect pet, except for one very sad fact: they have such short times with us. This page is a special 'goodbye' to some of these special ratties who have touched my life in the past 2 years.
Rest in Peace my darlings...
And for those of you who haven't heard this poem, here is a gorgeous presentation of it...
UCVR/EAGL AUTUMN

Autumn, a ratty from EagleEye
Rattery out of Oregon, was a gorgeous cinnamon girl.
She was a terrible adventurer when younger, but became a non-stop cuddler as she aged. She loved being fussed over and would come running when someone came close. Autumn passed her personality and lovely streaky coloration on to her babies and was an awesome momma. CAVE Widget and Marie are her daughters, and she has LOTS of grandkiddies out there :) Autumn died of complications after a surgery to remove a very large mammary growth that just wasn't letting her be herself anymore. She was very healthy otherwise and was expected to recover well, so her passing is a terrible shock. This sweet, snuggly girl will be very missed. |
CAVE Schmoo
![]() Born: 02/08/06 Died: Early July 2007 |
Schmoo was a special
girl, though a one-person rat. She lived up to her name, a
shortened version of 'schmooze', but only to the few people she decided she
liked. At her first (and only) show I was told she was "squeally and
didn't want to be touched'' - which was a shocker at the time, since she was so
syrupy sweet for me! She was just a lovely unique girl. This little fuzz-butt always had to be the center of attention in a group. When up she'd be in your lap or on your shoulder begging for attention "...must..have..looooove!" . She was also the alpha of her cage right to he end. She was a lovely, squishy lady was my first beautiful blue ratty. Schmoo was a child of Squeek and Willow, born in February of 2006. Though never bred, she is survived by her mother Willow and a number of cousins. |

Curly Sue, a rescue
who came to me along with Amber, was a mismarked siamese, and a very cuddly
girl. Of all my ratties, she was the cuddliest; she would sit in your arms and let you fuss
over her for as long as you wanted, especially if you offered scritches behind the
ears. She was an all-around super-sweet lady who swayed many hearts to
seeing the wonders of rats. Her name, Curly Sue, came from the odd way she
held her tail as she ran - in a little piggy curl! Her tail was
normal in every other way - it moved alright and she used it just like any of
the others, but when she started moving faster, it curled right up!
Curly Sue was an older girl when I adopted her from the Humane Society, possibly
just over a year in age, which would make her about two years of age at death.
She passed quietly during her sleep alongside her loving cagemates. |
SQUEEK
Died: 09/23/06 |
Squeek
was
a European Roan Rat with great berkshire markings. He was born and
raised for the first year of his life in Heidelberg, Germany, where his
mommy was based as a soldier in the US Army.
Squeek was a very outgoing boy who wasn't afraid of anything; he took over any room he was in, with plenty of confidence to spare. He was very athletic (could walk easily along the edges of my aquariums) and enjoyed being on the go, but would stop in to give his people plenty of kisses. He earned his name as a baby because he was very talkative, squeeking, sqwauking and chattering most of the time; he passed this trait on to many of his children. Squeek was a ratty Brad Pitt; the girls LOVED him! When Squeek came nearby they'd act like a bunch of teenage girls at a "backstreet boys" concert. He knew they thought he was hot stuff too - you should have seen him strut ! ; ) Squeek passed away quietly during the night, after a long battle with pneumonia. He was about two years old, and led a more exciting life than most ratties can claim. He leaves behind several wonderful litters of sons and daughters, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is the foundation father for ALL roans in the North West. He is dearly missed. |
